Refractmur is a mixture of aluminium cement, aggregates, additives and admixtures.

Refractmur is a dry mortar for refractory masonry, ready to mix, based on aluminium cement. Refractmur resists temperatures of up to 800°C.

Bricks that are too dry or too wet may cause poor adherence. The adhesion between the mortar and the brick is assessed by separating two mortared bricks after one minute.
For good adherence the break should occur in the mortar.
Under no circumstances should bricks be water-soaked when work is in progress.
The bricks should be free of dust.
To ensure good adhesion, moisten the absorbent parts of the masonry in advance.
The work should be protected from the cold, from lashing rain and from wind.
During the work and while hardening, the ambient temperature and that of the substrate should be neither lower than 5°C nor higher than 30°C.
Never work on a substrate that is frozen, thawing or likely to freeze.

It is advisable to mix Refractmur by machine, with about 13% of clean water (3.25 litres per 25 kg bag or 0.65 litres per 5 kg bag) up to the desired consistency.
The mix should be homogeneous, creamy and free of lumps.
Usage time for the mix is around 1 hour.
Mortar that has started to harden should not be remixed or reused.

Protect the work from the cold, from lashing rain and from wind. Do not use at temperatures lower than 5°C or higher than 30°C. Never work on frozen support surfaces, thawing surfaces or surfaces likely to freeze in the next 24 hours.
Note: the first fires should not be too fierce and only after complete drying: say 28 days

Refractmur is packed in 5 or 25 kg bags on shrink-wrapped Euro pallets of 500 or 1200 kg.
12-month shelf life in the original packing and protected from moisture.

After drying for 28 days we recommend that the heat of the first fire be built up gradually.
The type and preparation of the support surfaces and use should comply with and adhere to the CSTC provisions.
